BAMF BHAWANI ANANTARAMAN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
(For more information, please visit www.bamf.uottawa.ca)
The Bhawani Anantaraman Memorial Foundation, BAMF, was created by Dr. A. V. Anantaraman after he lost his wife Bhawani and two teenage daughters, Aruna and Rupa in the tragic explosion of the Air India flight Kanishka in 1985. Aruna and Rupa were tremendously talented violinists and Dr. Anantaraman found solace in creating scholarships for string instruments in their names in the School of Music at the University of Ottawa. The Foundation awards scholarships each year and is pleased to sponsor annual concerts by the scholarship winners and their colleagues in the School of Music.
In addition to the music scholarships, Dr. Anantaraman founded a school in Yercaud, India for underprivileged children. He provides over 100 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 9 with a free, yet top class education. He trains the teachers and teaches many of the classes himself. He also offers a healthy morning snack and a nutritious lunch, all free of charge, to the students. He runs yearly dental and medical clinics for the children and offers them unconditional love as part of their daily curriculum.
The fundraiser on May 25, 2013 is one of the yearly fundraising events hosted by the Foundation. It will feature music and dance by outstanding local talent including some very young singers and dancers. All proceeds of the program will go towards the maintenance of the Bhawani Memorial School in Yercaud, India and scholarships at the School of Music, University of Ottawa.
Please attend the fundraiser, encourage the tremendously talented volunteer artists of our community, and support the Foundation’s activities at the Bhawani Memorial School and the School of Music.
